Why Are You Still Walking That Dead Dog?
And how long will you allow yourself to be weighed down by its carcass?

Let’s tell a little story today, shall we?
Once upon a time, in a land not so far away, there lived a beautiful young woman. She had a heart as kind as a spring morning—and a dog as mean as a snake.
She adored that dog. Fed him, bathed him, protected him, cared for him. But he? He bit the hand that fed him—literally and figuratively. He growled at her kindness, barked at her affection, and nipped at her love. She loved him anyway. For years.
Until one day...the dog died.
Now, this should be where the story ends. But nope.
Instead of burying the smelly beast and moving on, she did something unthinkable. She kept dragging him around.
On walks.
To coffee dates.
To job interviews.
To church.
Folks started noticing the stench. “Girl, why are you carrying around that dead thing?” they asked.
“I can’t let it go,” she’d whisper. “It’s part of who I am.”
Oof.
That rotting carcass kept her from doing what she wanted to do. She couldn’t board a plane carrying it. Couldn’t start fresh. Couldn’t build new relationships. Because she was dragging bones—and pretending it was normal.
And now, friend… here comes the mirror.
What dead dog are YOU still dragging?
What past sin, trauma, shame, or regret are you still leashing up every morning like it’s part of your personality?
That season of wild choices?
That decade of dysfunction?
That one relationship that crushed your soul?
That old identity wrapped in unworthiness and shame?
You say, “It made me who I am.”
Jesus says, “But I want to make you NEW.”
See, God doesn’t just forgive your mess. He removes it—as far as the east is from the west. But He can’t free you if you won’t let go.
That guilt?
That regret?
That bitterness?
That lie that you’re too far gone?
That’s your albatross. Not the bird—though it’s just as awkward to carry through life—but the burden that’s hindering everything God has planned for you.
You’re forgiven, friend. But are you walking like it?
Philippians 3:13-14 says:
"Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."
God’s already reached for the leash. He’s already stretched out His arms to take those bones.
So the question isn’t can He heal you—
The question is: Will you give Him the bones?
You’re not who you were.
You don’t have to smell like that season.
You don’t have to let that sin define you anymore.
Let. It. Go.
Bury it.
Walk away.
Because you’ve got places to go—and dead dogs? They don’t fly coach.
